The iPhone rumor mill is working overtime at the moment and the web is flooded with “maybe this” and “maybe that” speculation on the upcoming iPhone.

So far the top rumors mention the iPhone 5 – a completely re-designed phone with a larger screen, better camera, an additional internal antenna for improved reception and improved CPU (dual core). There is also a rumor going around that there will be no iPhone 5, and there is simply going to be an iPhone 4s, which would simply be an upgrade to the existing iPhone. The rumors say that this will be exactly the same as the iPhone 4 with just a better camera (which is already below standard) and an improved CPU.

The latest rumor however came up a few days ago from Al Gore saying that both these devices will be launched – at once! This isn’t particularly unusual for Apple: the company has released a modified version of a previous model of the iPhone along with a new one in the past.

What do you make of Al Gore’s statement? Did the former Vice President misspeak, or did he know exactly what he was saying? October is just a week and a half away. Apple fans, salivate!

It had been previously rumored that Apple’s second-generation tablet will inherit the critically-acclaimed Retina Display from the iPhone 4. The problem is that a 300 DPI, 9.7-inch iPad would need a resolution of 2560 x 1920 – more pixels than Apple’s top-of-the-line 27? LED Cinema Display. New information suggests that the upcoming iPad 2 will in fact get a 2048 x 1536 panel running at 260 DPI — double the amount of horizontal and vertical pixels as the iPad 1.

So called resolution “doubling” should be easy for developers to support, allowing legacy apps to run in a pixel-doubled mode until developers can re-write them to support the iPad 2’s larger panel. Apple the same thing with the iPhone 4, increasing its resolution from 480 x 320 to 960 x 640.

According to rumors running around online bout some new gadgets coming from Apple. This includes a rumour about a new iPhone, and a new iPad coming in 2011. Nothing overly ambitious on iPhone rumors, but the main point is definitely an Antenna fix.

Some other rumors also mention that new iPods are also coming as “early as this month or as late as September”. This will include a new iPod touch, a new nano, and a 1.7-inch touchscreen version of the iPod shuffle. The iPod touch, they say, will have half an inch less screen than the current one. Why would Apple use a smaller display when they can enjoy the iPhone 3.5-inch Retina display? More sources say that a smaller iPad will be released, this one including a 7-inch display instead of the 9.7-inch one.

If these rumors are foun to be actually true, it seems that Apple will be trying very hard to dominate the mobile market.

Two major technologies are being touted as the big enablers of wearable computing: Flexible, affordable OLED touchscreens and holographic screens. This concept has them both, and then some.

The wristband is bulky but has a full wraparound screen, and can be laid flat with a pop out keyboard and holographic display projected above.

The 3TB drive will form part of Seagate’s ES line of drives which will replace the Barracuda ES line later in the year and will feature a 6Gbit/s and spin at 7,200RPM. Currently these enterprise class drives max out at 2TB, so the capacity bump should be welcomed by those who’ve maxed out their current storage.

Currently 2TB drives make use of four platters that can each hold 500GB. The race now it to develop either 640GB and 750GB platters, allowing for four-platter 2.5TB drives and 3TB drives respectively.

Also coming is a 1TB capacity 2.5-inch drive, which will offer a capacity boost over current offerings by Toshiba and Western Digital.

It’s in the pipeline and it’s called WiGig!

The WiFi Alliance is joining forces with the Wireless Gigabit Alliance to create the WiGig Alliance. The goal – to bring 7Gbps wireless connectivity to users.

So how does it work? Well, the idea is to combine into a single router a 2.4GHz adapter to handle backward compatibility and improve range, a 5GHz adapter for performance, and a 60GHz adapter for super-fast transfers over a short distance.

It’s an impressive upgrade to the 802.11 standard, and it has the backing of some big names such as Intel, Cisco and Broadcom.

The WirelessHD alliance also has plans for a super-fast 60GHz standard that could offer a massive maximum theoretical data transfer rate of 28Gbps.

A leaked document from Dell reveals the existance of a 7-inch touch screen tablet called “Looking Glass” that runs the Android OS using an NVidia T20 (or Tegra 2) processor and could provide the type of competition for the iPad that HP’s forthcoming Slate tablet may not be able to provide.

Dell is positioning the Looking Glass as a big brother to the 5-inch Streak, which is due later this summer. The Looking Glass differentiates itself from the Apple tablet in a few interesting ways. First, it comes with a sizable 4GB of RAM, includes an SD card slot for additional storage and a 1.3-megapixel camera, and even offers an optional digital TV tuner module so you can watch live TV on the Dell unit. Of course, the leaked marketing materials point out that the Looking Glass runs Flash and supports multitasking.

There are a couple of potential deal breakers, including a resolution of just 800×480 (the same as the Streak’s) and a launch date several months out: The delay could be related to Dell getting its hands on the new Nvidia mobile processor, which is designed to provide more horsepower for HD video and gaming than Intel’s Atom has mustered to date. (In comparison, the Streak is using a Qualcomm Snapdragon CPU, but also sports a 5-megapixel camera.)
