Draw Something is one of the latest apps to take the world by storm and it’s growing at an incredible rate. I won’t go into detail about the app itself since there are so many sites reviewing it already (feel free to read this article on AppBoy).

The basic idea behind this game is that you simply have to draw one item from a list of 3 options (different at every round) and the other player (can be a random player from all over the world or from your social network list) has to guess what you are drawing.

Of course, most players are pretty bad (including myself) with drawing on a touch screen so the end result might be pretty… lets say interesting… there are others however that can draw great stuff. Check out the gallery below from one of my twitter friends Matthew (www.twitter.com/matthewzammit) . Great collection!

It is the sequel to the most critically acclaimed game of 2009, Uncharted 2: Among Thieves.

Uncharted 3 will see protagonist Nathan Drake and mentor Victor Sullivan travelling around the world to such places as the Rub’ al Khali desert, in search of the legendary lost city, the Iram of the Pillars. He ends up being pulled in to an even bigger mystery filled with deceit, pitting him against a shadowy clandestine organization and the occult treachery of its cunning and ruthless leader. Marlowe is always trying to undermine Drake and getting him to do things he doesn’t want to do.

Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception is an action-adventure game played from a third-person perspective, with the player in control of Nathan Drake. Drake will have a large number of different animation sets, enabling him to react according to his surroundings. Drake is physically adept and is able to jump, sprint, climb, swim, scale narrow ledges, wall-faces to get between points, and perform other acrobatic actions. Drake can now take on opponents in more ways than before: hand-to-hand combat with multiple opponents, contextual melee attacks, and new stealth options. Drake can be equipped with up to two and a limited supply of grenades. Drake can pick up weapons, automatically replacing the existing weapon he was using, and additional ammunition from killed enemies.

The player can direct Drake to take cover behind corners or low walls using either aimed or blind-fire to kill his enemies. The player can also have Drake fire while moving. If Drake is undetected by his enemies, the player can attempt to use stealth to take them out, such as by sneaking up behind them to knock them out with one hit, or by pulling an unsuspecting foe over a ledge from which Drake is hanging. The stealth mechanic has been simplified and improved. Some areas of the game will require the player to solve puzzles with the use of Drake’s journal, which provides clues towards the puzzles’ solutions. When enabled, a hint system provides gameplay clues, such as the direction of the next objective.

Like its predecessors, throughout the game there will be special treasures that may be hidden or in difficult-to-reach places that the player can collect. Collecting these treasures, along with completing certain feats within the game, is tracked by the awarding of medals, which gives the player in-game money to use to unlock special options; these include in-game bonuses such as alternate costumes, unlimited ammunition, buy new weapons, as well as upgrades for online gameplay. Also non-game extras, including concept art and making-of movie. All the money that players earn in the game’s story mode will be available for transfer to multiplayer, and vice versa. The statistics tracked for a large portion of the in-game medals are used to award trophies.

Numerous gaming websites have called Uncharted 3 one of the most anticipated games of 2011 with 1UP and IGN ranking it number one in their “Top 10 PS3 Games of 2011″. We can only just wait and see when this game is released and if it manages to impress the audience and keep its high rankings.

Deus Ex: Human Revolution is the third game in the Deus Ex first-person role-playing video game series.

The game takes place during the year 2027, 25 years before Deus Ex. Nanotechnological augmentations have yet to be developed and biomechanical augmentations are the current state of the art. The main protagonist, Adam Jensen, is a private security officer with Sarif Industries, a leading company that specializes in human augmentations. After he witnesses a chilling attack on his company which leaves him horrifically injured and forced to undergo augmentation to survive, “the conspiracy begins.”

The player will visit five cities over the course of the game, including Detroit, Shanghai and Montreal. In addition, the protagonist will have his own apartment where he may store his secrets and collected information. The events in the game will lead to the formation of UNATCO from the original game.

Deus Ex 3 was announced on May 17, 2007, and an initial teaser trailer was released on November 26, 2007. Around one year later a first preview was launched which detailed some of the game’s mechanics and setting. Several of the design decisions mentioned, most notably the introduction of regenerating health, precipitated an initial backlash amongst many fans of the original Deus Ex.

The different “pillars of gameplay” are “Combat”, “Stealth”, “Hacking”, and “Social”. Players can switch between these gameplay types whenever they please, and certain pillars may flow into others. For example, a failed hack may sound an alarm and start a fight, and exploration might lead to the discovery of a stealthy way past the area’s enemies.

In the series, Augmentations are technological modifications to the body that allow the user to use superhuman abilities. While augmentations in the first two games were nanotech, Human Revolution is set prior to both and instead features mechanical augmentations. These Augmentations cater to each of the five gameplay types. While the player character is highly capable of bringing death on his enemies, the player is never forced into acts of lethal violence. Augmentations, while enhancing the player’s performance in each of the gameplay types, also allow players to craft their own methods of play should they see fit.

Every enemy squad will have an identifiable squad leader who will direct the team’s actions. If the leader is killed, the squad falls into disarray. Enemies will also react to subtle player decisions, such as a change in behaviour or weapons, etc. Unlike in Invisible War, weapons will fire distinct ammunition types instead of depleting a unified pool. They can also be upgraded to better suit the player.

Another major change seen in Deus Ex: Human Revolution is the highlighting of objects a player can interact with, explained via the in-game plot as tactical vision Augmentation. This highlighting of objects can be turned off in the game options. Human Revolution is primarily a first-person game, but will switch to a contextual third-person viewpoint when using the cover system, certain Augmentations, or for melee combat.

Deus Ex Human Revolution has received widespread critical acclaim in reviews. Reviewers who had access to the game in February 2011 praised the importance of conversations in the missions, and also the depth of the storyline. Various other websites also described that this is a game that “puts almost everything else in the genre to shame.”

Unlike previous games in the series, the game does not carry the “Tomb Raider” brand and will have a heavy emphasis on cooperative gameplay, both online or locally.

The game story starts 2,000 years ago in ancient Central America, where a battle began between Totec, the Guardian of the Light, and Xolotl, a dark spirit. After Totec defeated Xolotl he banished him and entombed himself in the Temple of Light along with the magical Mirror of Smoke to prevent it from falling into the wrong hands. In present day, Lara Croft finds the temple and Mirror but mercenaries follow behind and steal it from her. Xolotl and Totec are awaken from their tombs by the chaos and Xoloti kills the mercenaries and runs away with the artefact. Totec blames Lara for the whole disaster, but realises that they will need to work together in order to retrieve the Mirror and defeat Xolotl

In the multiplayer, players will take the role as either Lara Croft or Totec. They will have to work together in order to stop the evil spirit Xolotl and retrieve the Mirror of Smoke. A single-player campaign mode will be available that will have a different storyline and will not include the non-playable character AI following or helping Lara. Guardian of Light will use the same game engine as Tomb Raider: Underworld, and will include modern visuals and physics.

The game will be a departure from the main series as being a third person adventure game. Instead it will be a non-linear “arcade-inspired” action game played from an isometric viewpoint using a fixed camera. Each playable character will possess unique weapons and skills. Lara will retain her dual pistols with infinite ammo and a grappling hook. She will be able to use her grappling hook to make it across difficult gaps and Totec can ride along. Totec will carry spears which can be used as a weapon and on the environment. Both characters will carry unlimited “bombs” that can be dropped and detonated with a press of a button.Tombs can be explored and some will have trap puzzles to solve.

Guardian of Light was shown at E3 2010 on 14 June. It will be released as a download only title and is scheduled to be released for the Xbox Live Arcade on 18 August 2010. It will be released later for the PC and PlayStation Network. In the United States, the PC download will be distributed exclusively by the DRM digital distribution platform Steam. The download will be approximately 2 GB.

Championship Manager 2010 was released on for the PC on the 11th of September 2009. This game was planned for release last year, however they allocated extra development time to impliment a number of significant, never seen before upgrades and tweaks.

The match engine has undergone a radical overhaul, now with over 500 individual player animations, seven different camera angles, replays and the ability to record and re-watch matches. Plus a huge range of messaging features in the game enables you to have far greater access to information and news from within the game’s world of football. Broadcasting real media references, the latest CM news system delivers in a wide variety of ways. The user gets all the information and news that’s relevant to their game in order to maximise their potential as a manager.

An exclusive feature to the CM series, ProZone continues to evolve to enable users to access highly detailed, post-match analysis on their players. With full stats on their own team and the opposition, the manager has the complete picture of personal and team performances to aid their decisions. Providing data on every pass, run, shot and more, ProZone is the analysis tool, putting CM in the real football world. Professional managers use ProZone on a daily basis. It doesn’t get any more real than this.

I recently came across the game Prototype when browsing around the latest releases section of a popular online game store. I can honestly say that I had heard absolutely nothing about this game before, but the title and game box intrigued me and I decided to take a leap of faith and just buy the game. I’m so glad I did!!

This game takes you through a viral outbreak in New York, a disaster of epic proportion, turning the population into mutants and zombie-like characters. The military in this game are trying their best to contain this outbreak, while Alex Mercer (the main character of the game is trying to figure out what’s happening, while trying to not get caught in the crossfire.

Alex Mercer wakes up one day in a morgue with absolutely no memory of his past. The only difference is that he has now a huge arsenal of amazing powers and incredible agility. He finds himself with the ability to shape shift, absorb “consume” other beings (human and mutants alike) jump incredible heights, run at blistering speed, glide over buildings and with a vast array of transformations that make his body a lethal weapon.

Prototype is a single player, open-world action game with a vast city landscape with free roaming abilities, and therefore you can play around the city in between one mission and another or play the various mini missions that are usually highlighted in green pointers.

Though you play as a man bestowed with superhero power, Mercer is anything but heroic. There are no moral choices here. Mercer has vowed to destroy those responsible for his current situation and he has the means to do it. To gain new powers or refill your health bar, you’ll literally absorb other living beings. Find yourself a little low on hit points and you can simply grab an innocent bystander, crush his or her head, and then consume them for a quick boost. If you find yourself in a pinch with attack choppers chasing you through the roads, you can absorb a person and morph into their likeness to blend in with the crowd.

The storyline involves about 30 missions including simple seek and destroy missions, stealthy infiltrations, escort missions and massive boss battles. Most of these missions are standard in design. In fact, if you’ve played many open-world games, you’ve probably played identical copies of these in the past. And since repetition is oftentimes the name of the game here, you can be sure you’ll be doing uninspired tasks over and over again.

The concept of collectibles that are usually scatttered around the city has been extended to what’s called the Web of Intrigue. These are people that, by being hunted down and consumed, reveal splintered visions of the infection’s history. They’re slick and wonderfully tantalizing — little in Prototype is more exhilarating than being in the midst of a tough mission only to see one of these targets stroll by.

There are a couple of other diversions that I found interesting, as well, including army bases that must be stealthily infiltrated to score weapon and skill upgrades. It’s through these that you can even unlock the ability to call in airstrikes. I quickly had this skill maxed out — infiltrating the bases is pretty darn fun.

As for the game’s bad side, Prototype unfortunately has rather bland and boring city scape. The blandness is seen throughout in a city recreated with few landmarks and instead filled with generic, lifeless buildings. Move quickly along the building tops and trees, bushes, cars and other structures pop in and out as the game struggles to draw them. Everything else is shrouded in an ugly fog. In a game where you spend much of the time pouncing from one roof to the next, this ugliness is felt throughout. Just climb a building or get in a helicopter and look out at the skyline to get an eyeful of Prototype’s ugliness. However, the animations used when Alex uses his powers are downright amazing, and it gives a very real feel. Running up the side of a building, doing a flip over a railing, and then leaping off into a charged drop attack just feels cool.

Aside from specific infected buildings, no structural damage can be done. You can’t even knock over billboards. And when you do take down the few buildings you’re allowed to damage, the resulting explosion is laughably bad. All of the real chaos you can create is limited to vehicles and passing pedestrians. Your cool powers don’t feel quite so cool when you can’t even break a window by throwing a car at it.

Prototype is a game with many super cool features. However, it lacks the finishing touches that make for a great and memorable game. It lacks a bit in attention to detail. Thankfully, Alex Mercer’s absorbing and shape shifting powers manage to overcome many of the shortcomings of Prototype. Though the missions themselves aren’t anything special, the vast array of powers provides their own variety and flair. I’ll be very looking forward for Prototype 2!!

As for my first ever game review I decided to write on Command & Conquer – Red Alert 3, one of my favorite games in the Strategy genre. This game was released last October 2008 for the PC and Xbox 360 platform. Another expansion of this game dubbed Red Alert 3: Uprising is scheduled to be launched in March 2009. Those not familiar with this game genre should give it a try! Usually those games involve an element of planning and getting to know your unit’s abilities and weaknesses; therefore the players’ decision-making skills have a high significance in determining the outcome.

For those who have been into gaming for quite some time, the Command & Conquer series of games should be quite familiar since the first game in this series was released back in August 1995 by Westwood Studios. Now the game is being developed and released by EA Games, a very well known and reputable game studio. So much has evolved since the first release, but the basic elements of the game are pretty much the same as the first one.

Red Alert 3, takes up a very different tongue-in-cheek approach, with B-actors like George Takei and Tim Curry hamming it up, and women in ridiculous outfits giving the mission briefings. This is something that players of the previous games might actually not appreciate since the game takes up a bit of a comedy twist. Some might like it, some might not.

In a few lines, the basics of the game involves you (the commander) building your military base, base defense (air and land defense), attack units (infantry, vehicles, aircraft and sea vessels) and once that is done, you have to attack the other player’s bases and at the same time protect your own base. There are other aspects involved in the game such as technology research; allowing you to upgrade your buildings and units, whilst also providing you with helpful features and extra weapons. There are also the much loved super weapons like the Psionic Decimator, Vacuum Imploder and the Proton Collider. Those weapons usually take a lot of time and resources to build and charge, but once charged, they can deal massive damage to your opponents. Some unusual, I dare say funny units, in this new version are the War Bears and the Attack Dolphins which aren’t very powerful really but can be helpful too on your way to conquer your enemy.

First thing one notices immediately upon first load of this game is the very high-quality graphics, in fact, a basic PC might not be able to run this game smoothly, a high end PC with a good CPU, a good amount of RAM and decent graphics card is always recommended for most of the new games. The full motion video cut-scenes and game intro are absolutely incredible and very professional. Massive visual improvements are expected by all fans of this series from one release to another, and this latest version doesn’t let down in this aspect!

As with the previous games in this series, the player takes control of one of the factions; U.S.S.R., the Allies (i.e., NATO), and the new Empire of the Rising Sun. the three sides are much more diverse than before, both in terms of play style and units. The Russians are tough, slow, and cheap, while the Allies are very high-tech and rely primarily on air power. The Japanese, emphasize on transforming units that play several roles but are weaker than the equivalent units on the other side – they do however possess the “cool” factor out of the three. Each faction has also a special unit that have enhanced capabilities like Natasha, Yuriko and Special Agent Tanya, which can kill infantry at huge ranges, take over or destroy enemy buildings and vehicles very easily and quickly. These super units are sometimes your vital, and most important unit of each mission since if the main unit is killed the mission is lost. Some factions also allow you to also build engineers that can steal your enemy’s technology. The downside is that those engineers are very weak and it’s a though job to manage to get them past base defenses.

This all takes place in an alternate universe with beautifully designed land and seascapes where the Soviet Union still exists, and this time, due to the Russians using a time machine to mess with history, the Empire of Japan’s once again a major military power. The trio of factions pit their unique abilities and units against each other in three separate single-player campaigns (skirmish and online deathmatch are also available)

Of course, Red Alert 3 doesn’t get everything right: hence why I rate this game with a score of 4.5. Missions rotate among about a half-dozen “stock” types, and multiplayer maps are often a bit bland. EA still has difficulties with connectivity to its online community, making this at least the third title they’ve produced with such problems. We can only hope EA gets this worked out for the upcoming expansion, because if past performance is any indicator of future excellence, it’s going be one hell of a game.
