I think he's trying to bridge the gap between the network, the smartphone and the e-reader. I agree that multi-tasking maybe a missing feature but knowing Apple, a software update will address this. I have a feeling that by the time it is launched they will have added new stuff. Announcing the iPad know gives Apple the time to gauge public reactions; based on that they can refine the product and their marketing.

Just wait for the JailBreak. Apple is notorious for creating devices with great features and power and then locking their customers out of those features.
